March By Name List Report

April 24, 2026

The March 2026 By Name List Report provides a clear picture of how homelessness was experienced in Winnipeg between March 1 and March 31.

During this period, 8,248 people were identified as experiencing homelessness. This reflects individuals who had contact with homelessness-serving agencies within the preceding 90 days and gives a current view of the scale of need across the system.

Of this number, 4,468 people were experiencing chronic homelessness. These are individuals who have been without stable housing for at least six months in the past year, or who have experienced repeated episodes of homelessness that add up to at least 18 months over the past three years. The size of this group shows that a significant portion of people are facing longer-term housing instability.

The data also shows movement within the system. Between February 2026 and March 2026, 104 individuals became newly identified as chronically homeless, indicating that some people are remaining without housing long enough to meet the definition of chronic homelessness.

A comparison with March 2025 shows an increase from 5,698 to 8,248 total individuals, and from 3,140 to 4,468 in chronic homelessness. This reflects a higher number of people being identified over time.

Overall, the Report points to three clear patterns.

  • The number of people experiencing homelessness remains high.
  • A large share are experiencing it for extended periods.
  • New individuals continue to enter and remain in homelessness long enough to become chronic.

Each number in this report represents a real person. The report provides a consistent way to track these patterns over time and better understand how homelessness is changing in Winnipeg.
