Intensive Support for Housing in Inkster

Description

The NorWest Co-op will offer housing supports that will provide intensive case management and wrap around supports by using the Housing First model; prioritizing residents in the Inkster catchment area. Two housing support workers will be hired and based out of two priority locations: 945 Notre Dame and 1880 Alexander Ave. The housing support workers will serve as mentors, mediators, advocates, and facilitators to ensure the housing search process meets the needs of the participants, will maintain a caseload of 6-10 participants each at all times and will collaborate with Naatamooskakowin.

The program will support youth, adults, and families experiencing homelessness to find and transition into safe, appropriate, and stable housing. Using the Housing First model, NorWest will help participants not only secure housing but also maintain it successfully over the long term. Referrals will be accepted through the partnership with Naatamooskakowin for participants who wish to reside in the Inkster area. Participants will also be supported in gaining a clear understanding of their tenant rights and responsibilities to promote stability and empowerment.

Beyond housing, NorWest will connect participants to additional supports as needed, including mental health services, primary health care, and educational opportunities. Long-term, post-housing case management will be provided to ensure participants continue to thrive and remain securely housed.
