Velma's House

Description

Velma's House is a Housing Supports and Support Services project operated by Ka Ni Kanichihk, receives funding from End Homelessness Winnipeg through its Reaching Home program. This facility is a 24/7 low barrier, culturally appropriate, safe space specifically for women exiting sexual exploitation, fleeing intimate partner violence, or experiencing homelessness. It focuses particularly on supporting Indigenous women, girls, and those who identify as female from the 2SLGBTQ+ community, providing a critical sanctuary for those in need.

The facility offers a comprehensive array of Client Support Services along with essential needs such as food, places to shower and rest, and access to hygiene products. These services are enhanced by culturally appropriate supports like guidance from Elders and the opportunity to participate in traditional ceremonies.
