ALERT: CMHB - FULLY SUBSCRIBED

The Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit (CMHB), which is federally funded under the National Housing Strategy, is fully subscribed and the Province of Manitoba has paused intake.

All provincial rent supplements, including provincial Rent Assist, remain unaffected and continue to support new applicants.

Manitobans who are currently receiving the CMHB or are renewing their applications will continue to receive the benefit as long as they remain eligible

Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit (CMHB)

End Homelessness Winnipeg administers the Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit (CMHB) homelessness stream in partnership with Manitoba Housing. The CMHB is a portable shelter benefit. Since 2021 the CMHB homelessness stream has assisted 3,673 individuals with a total of $22,481,610 disbursed through the housing benefit program.

Eligible recipients are renters in core housing need: experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. This stream is designed to support independence and provide safe and stable housing. The goal is to improve outcomes by providing a benefit that addresses affordability gaps in housing costs. CMHB is portable within Manitoba.

To be eligible for the CMHB homelessness stream, applicants must be:

  • Receiving Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) or non-EIA Rent Assist
  • In core housing need due to affordability
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident of Canada or refugee claimant
  • Living in private rental accommodation (not Manitoba Housing)

To apply for the CMHB, applicants must submit the program application form, budget letter or rent assist confirmation letter, and their tenancy agreement or completed EIA Rent Form.

Survivors of Gender-Based Violence Stream

This stream is to support independence and improve outcomes for individuals who have left a situation of violence and need help to pay for their rent or mortgage to independently establish themselves.

The benefit in this stream can be used anywhere in the private market in Manitoba. The benefit is delivered by the Provincial Services office of Manitoba Families.

Youth Stream

This stream is designed to support independence and improve outcomes for youth who are in the process of, or who have transitioned out of the care of Child and Family Services, up to the age of 26, and need assistance to pay for housing.

The benefit in this stream can be used anywhere in the private market in Manitoba. The benefit is delivered by the Provincial Services office of Manitoba Families.
