Our Prevention work focuses on stopping homelessness before it starts by addressing the root causes and risk factors that lead people and families into housing instability. This work involves coordinated, upstream strategies with lived experts, community partners, and government stakeholders across sectors.

Prevention efforts include:

  1. eviction prevention - including rental assistance, landlord-tenant mediation, and emergency financial support
  2. early intervention - including school-based programs, coordinated intake, and family support
  3. systems prevention - including supporting people exiting the child welfare system, correctional institutions and hospitals
  4. structural prevention - including advocating for policies, income supports, and reconciliation-based solutions

Together, these approaches reduce pathways into homelessness and build a more resilient, equitable community.
