Home IS: Housing and Income Security Through Schools

Education plays a vital role in preventing homelessness, especially when schools are equipped to connect families with the supports they need. Home IS (Home Income Security) is a school-based pilot project developed through a partnership between End Homelessness Winnipeg and Winnipeg School Division.

It offers a series of resource fairs throughout the school year that connect students and their families to critical services like Rent Assist, Employment and Income Assistance, ID clinics, tax filing, and more.

More than an information session, Home IS brings service providers into familiar school settings, enabling families to complete applications and access housing and income supports on-site. Coordinated with school staff, each event is designed to reduce barriers, strengthen community trust, and ensure families are equipped with the tools they need to maintain housing stability.

Home IS helps prevent family homelessness, supports low-income households, and allows students to stay focused on learning in a secure and supported environment by embedding access to essential services in schools.
